The Holiday season is here and many Americans over the next few weeks will focus on friends, families and festivities. What many may not realize, however, is the number and diversity of holidays celebrated across the globe –. February 28 – Shrove Tuesday- is celebrated by eating pancakes before lent, which is a period where you give up a specific food for 40 days.

Mustangs take prizes at SRQ art contest

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Artistic Mustang seniors excelled in the annual “SRQ” Airport art contest, taking first, second and third places. Morgan Mulholland won first, Mason Rademaker won second and Jenna Sivek won third. These students will not only have their work displayed in the lobby of the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, but also will receive special event recognition on Dec. 1 and will earn cash prizes.

SGA wants to see ugly sweaters Thursday

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Student Government Association (SGA) will be hosting the school’s annual ugly sweater day Thursday, Dec. 15. Senior Millie Harvey said, “I am going to wear my ugly sweater on Thursday so I can participate in the fun. I think ugly sweater day is a fun way to get students relaxed before the stress of exam week.”.

2016 Homecoming day updated

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Mustangs are preparing for the annual homecoming week event the Clash of the Classes. This year is going to be a little different as the Student Government Association (SGA) tries to incorporate as many people as they can. School library highlights “Mustangs Heritage”

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Mustangs In the school’s library may have noticed the new “Mustangs Heritage” display documenting sports and school history. Senior Hannah Springer is the “Mustangs Heritage” coordinator. “I am responsible for setting up the different boards we have such as Class of 2017, Monthly Information Calendar, Community, and activities for the month board,” she said.

LRHS Quill and Scroll seeking writers

Lakewood Leaders choose new president

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS Lakewood Leaders officers have been announced for next year. The president of the community service club will be Alyssa Morford, vice president will be Molly Mendoza, historian will be Daniel Wilkison, treasurer will be Joseph Mauer, and secretary will be Hannah Reynolds.

Seniors told to skip cap decorations

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – For LRHS Seniors graduation is coming up quickly. Graduation is scheduled for June 1 at the Bradenton Area Convention Center. Seniors will be able to pick up their cap and gowns on May 31 and class adviser Ann Fleury said caps are not allowed to have any decorations of any kind on them.

Mustangs move math outdoors

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Mustangs are taking their studies outdoors. LHRS math teacher Felicia Chasey’s Algebra 1 honors class is solving math problems on campus sidewalks. Chasey said, “Going outside to learn math is fun for the kids and gives them a break from testing. Also, they are still learning.”.

LRHS hosts Spring golf camp

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS Mustangs interested in golf are welcome to the Spring Break Junior Golf Camp. The camp will run from March 21- 25 at The Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, 7650 Legacy Boulevard. A full day of camp is from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and costs $250. A half day of camp is from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and costs $200.

Mustang club readying for the runway

(LKAEWOOD RANCH FL.)- LRHS Mustang junior Jackie Kelch is starting a fashion club. Anyone is welcome to join the club’s first meeting on March 1. To join, students need to come to one of the meetings in LRHS art teacher Terry Thompson’s room (509); meetings are held every other Tuesday. The club meetings will consist of preparing for an end of year fashion show, discussing fashion ideas and, most important, making new friends and having fun.

Mustangs HOSA prepares for competition

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS HOSA members are studying up for their big regional competition. The competition covers a variety of different things, ranging from written to hands-on tests from medical, forensic, nutrition, CPR, veterinary science and many more. There are individual , leadership and teamwork events.
